Floppy drives, desktop hard drives, laptop hard drives…you may have some data, or you may have a lot of data trapped on these old, unusable devices! We often don’t know what to do with them, so we let this “to do” ride into the future, fairly secure in the thought that we will address it at some point.
The challenges to this process are multiple:
– We don’t have the power cord to the device
– We don’t have the proper connecting cable for the device
– Our modern computers don’t have a slot for the floppy or CD/DVD
– The computer is bulky and hard to manage/access the storage drives
– I’m too busy

I know this is going into the way back machine, but storing images on floppy discs or cds or on a 128mb hard drive was the only game in town! So it’s likely that the early adopters of digital images have these early memories on discs and drives somewhere in your home. As things were transitioning, you could order a cd with your photos when you send in your film canisters for developing. Of course we are in the digital world now and we have a plethora of organization and storage options, but back then it was stacks of disks and drives!
